Heavy-Duty Electric Transfer Cart Solution for Metso’s China Foundry

Not all factories are clean, automated, and modern. Many industrial sites—especially those involved in mining machinerycasting, and the production of heavy equipment spare parts—face dusty, uneven, and space-constrained environments. That’s exactly the kind of challenge HENSEN excels at solving.

In this project, HENSEN delivered a customized 15-ton electric transport solution for the China division of Metso, a global leader in mining and metallurgy equipment. This solution was tailored specifically for one of their non-automated casting workshop, where large, heavy parts (ranging from several to over 10 tons) must be moved safely and efficiently.

Site Challenges: Harsh Conditions Require Smart Engineering

During our site evaluation, we encountered:

  • ⚙️ Dust, debris, and casting residue across the floor
  • 🪨 Uneven ground and sections paved with steel plates
  • 🚧 Fixed embedded rails crossing the turning zone
  • Sharp elevation changes at the rail crossings

While such conditions may deter standard AGV systems, they are no obstacle for HENSEN’s WPX Series manual-drive battery-powered transporters.

HENSEN’s Solution: WPX-15 Manual Drive Electric Flatbed Cart

For non-automated transfer operations in harsh environments, HENSEN proposed the WPX-15, a manually operated electric flatbed transporter featuring robust mechanical and electronic systems:

✅ Core Features:

  • 🛞 Ackermann Steering System
    • Large load capacity, high maneuverability
    • Excellent climbing performance
    • Capable of turning while moving, ideal for obstacle-ridden paths
  • 🪖 Solid Press-Fit Tires (Enhanced)
    • Reinforced rubber + steel core
    • Precision press-fit tolerance ±0.64mm
    • Designed for frequent turning, uneven surfaces, and shock absorption
  • 🔋 Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery (LFP)
    • Paired with a custom AC traction motor
    • Full hydraulic cylinder steering for power and easy maintenance
    • Regenerative braking with reverse current charging for energy efficiency
  • 🧠 7-inch Smart LED Dashboard (HENSEN-designed)
    • Displays voltage, current, speed, acceleration, and operation time
    • Real-time diagnostics & fault codes
    • High/low gear display, lighting status, sensor outputs

Safety Systems Built for Complex Environments

HENSEN prioritizes operator and equipment safety:

  • 🔦 Collision warning LED lights
  • 🛑 Emergency stop buttons
  • 📡 Laser obstacle detection sensors
  • 🧲 Electromagnetic braking system

These safeguards ensure safe operation even under hazardous workshop conditions.

Application Fit: Who Needs This Transporter?

This solution is ideal for:

  • Foundries & casting plants
  • Mining equipment manufacturers
  • Heavy metal parts and wear-resistant component producers
  • No automation infrastructure
  • Precast concrete manufacturers

Whether you need to move molds, castings, spare parts, or raw materials, the WPX Series provides safe, cost-effective, and rugged transport performance.

Looking for a Tough, Reliable Transfer Cart?

If your plant conditions are too rough for standard AGVs—or if you need a man-driven but intelligent electric transporter, HENSEN has the solution. Our non-rail transfer carts deliver dependable results for heavy-duty applications in harsh, non-automated settings.

A heavy-duty AGV shares its aisles with people. July 3, 2026

A Rail Guided Vehicle (RGV) is an electric transfer cart that travels on fixed steel rails to move heavy materials between workstations, production lines, bays, and warehouses. Because the vehicle is guided mechanically by the rails rather than by sensors alone, an RGV can carry extremely heavy loads — from 1 ton up to 500
